Samana is a town in the East of the Dominican Republic. Its complete name is Santa Barbara de Samana, and it has approximately 40.000 inhabitants.

The central part of the town is situated around the Malecón, the beach promenade, with the public buildings and the big hotels. From the harbour you can make boat trips, e.g. to the nearby island Cayo Levantado or whale watching tours. Many tourists visit Samana in January / February during the pairing season of the whales.
